1 Important Tip for Your Next Home Build
Most architectural firms might disclose simple, but obvious “secrets” in home building. If you’ve done a little research or have already spoken to a few consultants, they’ve likely hinted at being mindful of incorporating extra storage, choosing quality materials and designs over short cuts and trends or how to manage your building budget. Many of these “secrets” are really a matter of finding the right architect from the start. A great architect will always keep in mind how the spaces of your home will be lived in and create a design to meet those needs, using durable materials that will last. The tip I like to recommend my clients has more to do with their role in the home build than their relationship with the architect, and it’s very simple.
Take Pictures
Taking photographs while the construction of your home can provide satisfying visual storytelling of it coming to life. As poetic as that is, my advice comes from a purely logistical viewpoint. While the home is being built and before the walls are closed in, you have a rare and valuable opportunity to see “under the hood” so to speak. Every pipe and wire is exposed. Every structural beam is present. If you’re taking photographs of your water and electrical lines, you’ll save yourself some future headaches. The photographic maps of your home show inspectors that everything was installed properly and up to code. These records tell professionals where to find lines should maintenance, renovations, or additions be necessary in the future.
